Before watching the movie:
Despite definitely remembering a trailer, I couldn’t say anything more about what this movie is that isn’t on the poster. Cartoon dinosaurs in the modern day. There are a lot of names I recognize in the credits, but I don’t know what to expect other than John Goodman is definitely the lead dinosaur and Jay Leno’s character is probably a minor chomic relief player.
Before watching the movie:
I always had the impression that this movie was a horror/monster film, but actually looking at the promotional material, it seems more like a disaster drama in the style of Outbreak, where the disease is more of a force than a monster. In this movie, it appears people are dying of bites from a rare spider, and the experts have to contain the spider. It doesn’t even seem to be an uncanny spider (which would make it more monsterish), just an exotic one.
Jeff Daniels headlines this movie, and I continue to realize how broad his filmography is. At one time, I knew him exclusively as a comedy actor (though I was young enough to confuse him with Dave Coulier), and I think he’s still best known for Dumb and Dumber, but at this point I think I’ve seen him in more serious roles. But maybe I’m assuming too much with this movie.
Before watching the movie:
I guess one can look at this movie as the beginning of geek acceptance. It looks like it’s going to be a rehash of all the old awful stereotypes of what geeks are, but they’re the heroes, so it’s already a minor improvement.
Some names in the cast that I recognize: John Goodman and James Cromwell. I don’t expect important roles though. They strike me as mentions because they got famous.
Before watching the movie:
I hadn’t intended to create a theme, but here’s another theater movie set during a historical time of unrest. This time the Cuban Missile Crisis, and somehow screening a movie too close to reality for comfort causes a plot to happen.
I’m mainly here for John Goodman, but I’ll probably find something good that the blurbs haven’t been able to express.

Once again I’m watching a classic favorite, that I’m sure many readers have seen. This blog is as much about me catching up as it is about recommending new ideas. For those who haven’t, find out with me if it’s worth anything. For those who have, find out if I agree with you I guess.
The Big Lebowski is one of those cult favorites that it seems you either like it or you haven’t seen it. Everyone says it’s brilliant, and I’m here to see how right or wrong they are. At the very least, it’s a comedy, so it should be a worthwhile two hours.
